So there I was, lying on the floor of the master bedroom in our new house, taking a breather from painting. Vanessa called me over to the bathroom to check out the trim she had just painted, so I walked over there. Admired her work, sang along to Rubber Soul a bit...
Not ten seconds later and the ceiling fan collapsed from our 11' ceilings straight down to where I had just been lying down. Still not sure what happened, except that both screws came out of the electrical box. (My personal opinion is that the electrician installed the box 90 degrees out of whack, setting one of the box screws on the higher end of the vaulted ceiling.)
We'll see what the ol' new home warranty people have to say about this tomorrow...
Posted by pcg at December 29, 2005 1:19 AM...which begs the questions...do you have life insurance?...and does the policy allow for death by ceiling fan?...and is Vanessa the beneficiary?...and am I really an insurance broker by night?
Posted by: mikey on January 2, 2006 9:30 AMGood job on your Reflex saving throw to avoid that falling fan.
Posted by: jrau on January 3, 2006 1:32 PMA few questions:
1. Was the ceiling fan ON at the time?
2. Was the electrical box one of those blue plastic jobs?
3. Did the screws basically strip out of the electrical box?
It sounds to me like the electrician used the wrong guage screws? What was the verdict?
I can picture the misleading headline ... "Brilliant computer scientist, Peter Green, was crushed to death by a fan."
