(Is there a hipster name for the whole searching Google Images on one's first name and blogging about it?)

This reminds me of Ron. I don't have a brother, and neither my sister nor I assaulted the walls with our noggins.1 This looks like the approximate drawing quality of something I might draw, so I feel good about my own artistic prowess.2
So does this qualify as a full-on blog post, idiotic rambling, or both?
1. In Spanish, one would say something to the effect of "we used our head" as opposed to "we used our heads". (Actually, it would probably be more accurately translated, word for word, as "we used the head".) The idea is that each individual has but one head, so the singular is used. However, I think in English we would say "we used our heads" to show that multiple heads were involved, even if each person used just one. Which is more correct in English: using the singular or the plural?

2. When I was in junior high (or "middle school", depending on which part of the country you're in) I offered piano lessons to a friend in trade for drawing lessons. Needless to say, after two sessions, I still never got past stick figures and he still never got past "Chopsticks". Oh to be able to draw...

Both. ;)
Posted by: alan on March 30, 2004 4:15 AMIt's not that you cannot draw, it's that your current work does not look as refined as that of people with natural talent and training.
I personally think that not being controlled by instinct and schooling can be an advantage at times. You can develop a personal style that is hard for "skilled" folks to match. This style will be disctinctly yours. Develop it and appreciate it for what it is ... a bit of you.
Don't be afraid to showcase it either. You might be surprised to find that a collection of your creations looks really nice when framed well.
Posted by: Max on March 30, 2004 6:52 AMMax, I will sadly disagree. It is so embarrassing when I try to "draw" -- my 9-year-old son can draw better than me. If by "a personal style" you mean "extreme suckage", then I guess you're right, but I'm not sure how useful that is. :-P
Posted by: pcg on March 30, 2004 8:07 AMHurray! I was mentioned!
I see it this way, creating is a good thing. Art has always put an emphasis that a good drawing is one that looks like reality, Realism. So being able to represent what one sees is equated to good art. Not so because the term "see" can be subjective. Seeing is as much as an eye thing as it is a mental thing. Remember this, cubism, did not look "real" at all, and some of those artists created some of the most visually interesting things I have every seen. If you seem more with your mind than your eye then maybe that is your style.. You dont know me I stumbled onto your blog.
